Carers in work
Many carers manage caring responsibilities with a full or part-time job. If you have worked for your employer for at least 26 weeks, you have the right to request flexible working to allow you to manage your caring responsibilities.
Flexible working could mean asking to change the:
- amount of hours you work
- times you work
- locations you work in.
Carers UK has detailed information about your rights, including types of flexible working and how to make a flexible working request.
The Carers UK site Employers for carers, features information to help employers support carers more effectively in the workplace.
Moving in to work
Jobcentre Plus provides Work Preparation Support for Carers which can help you with training, job hunting and applications. You may also be able to get help with replacement care while you train or attend interviews.
The Devon Carers Partnership, with Devon Carers and Jobcentre Plus, has put together a range of resources to help you get back into employment.
