After your assessment
Direct Payments give you more flexibility and control over your support. You can use the payments to buy whatever you need to best meet the outcomes in your support plan.
We will talk to you about having Direct Payments after you have had a social care needs assessment and will be receiving services from social care.
Our Direct Payments Team can talk to you about your options and can provide support with all aspects of the process including filling in forms, keeping financial records and employing people to help you.
To get the best results it is better not to think about your Direct Payments as a separate financial issue, but to look at your whole income together, including things like benefits and pensions, and then work out the best solution to meet your individual needs.
The Direct Payments Team can help with this, or you can get advice from an independent agency like Citizens Advice Bureau.
You can also have Direct Payments if you are:
- a carer who has been assessed as needing support in your own right
- the parent of a child with a disability assessed as needing support in looking after your child
You can get further support and information from Care Direct by calling 0345 1551 007 or emailing East: email@example.com, North: firstname.lastname@example.org
or South: email@example.com
We also have a Direct Payments policy which explains in detail how the process works.
The Devon Card
Most people can have their Direct Payments loaded on to The Devon Card, this is pre-loaded Visa card which works in a similar way to a bank debit card. It allows you spend your Direct Payments without needing to set up a bank account or manage paper statements.
