Speed Humps

“I would like to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act. If limited by time restraints, please prioritise in order of a, b, c, etc.

The combined total number of speed humps, bumps, cushions and tables currently installed in your local authority area

Devon County Council (DCC) does not hold this information.

The height of the largest speed hump, bump, cushion or table installed in your local authority area

DCC does not hold this information.

All Road Hump Features on adopted public highways within the DCC area would have complied with the relevant Road Humps Regulations at the time of construction.  An example of this can be found online here.

The height of the smallest speed hump, bump, cushion or table installed in your local authority area.

Please see our response to question (b) above.

The amount of compensation paid out by your local authority to drivers for damage to cars caused by speed humps, bumps, cushions or tables, broken down by year for 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 to date.

DCC do not hold a central record of this information.  To obtain this information, including details of reduction of claims for damage caused by excessive speed, would require a detailed review of individual highway claims which have been made since 2015.

1,037 claims have been made for highway damage since 2015 and an individual review of each of these claims, based on, say, 15 minutes per file, would take in excess of 259 hours to complete. This information is therefore exempt from disclosure pursuant to Section12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 – ‘Cost of Compliance’.

Does your local authority have any plans to remove any speed humps, bumps, cushions or tables in your area?”

DCC currently has no plans to remove road humps.
