Pupil Premium Funding

“I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information from Devon:

How many pupils at secondary schools covered by your LEA were eligible to receive pupil premium funding in the academic year 2017 to 2018?

How much pupil premium funding did secondary schools covered by your LEA receive for the academic year 2017 to 2018?

How much of the pupil premium funding was spent on providing extra tuition for students?

What was pupil premium funding spent on during the academic year 2017 to 2018?

Please answer within the time period specified- In the academic year 2017 to 2018 (which ran from 1st September 2017 to 31st August 2018) OR financial year 2017 to 2018 (1st April 2017 to 31st March 2018) depending on how you hold monetary figures.”

Pupil Premium is announced for financial year rather than academic year. Funding for the period 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2018 is provided below:-

Secondary Schools

  • Pupil Premium for Deprived Children – 6958 pupils at £935 and 5 pupils at £935 for 7 months = £6,508,457
  • Pupil Premium for Service Children – 751 pupils at £300 = £225,300
  • Pupil Premium for Post LAC pupils – 163 pupils at £1,900 = £309,700
  • Pupil Premium for Looked After Children = £267,755 (provided on provision of personal educational plans and number of pupils not recorded)
  • Total Pupil Premium – £7,311,212 – 7,877 pupils not including Looked After Children

All-Through Schools

  • Pupil Premium for Deprived Children – 100 primary pupils at £1,320 and 1 primary pupil at £1,320 for 7 months; 148 Secondary pupils at £935 and 33 pupils at £935 for 7 months = £289,149
  • Pupil Premium for Service Children – 43 pupils at £300 = £12,900
  • Pupil Premium for Post LAC pupils – 10 pupils at £1,900 and 5 pupils at £1,900 for 7 months = £24,542
  • Pupil Premium for Looked After Children = £9,773 (provided on provision of personal educational plans and number of pupils not recorded)
  • Total Pupil Premium = £336,363 – 340 pupils not including Looked After Children

Total Secondary and All-Through Schools (which includes an element of Primary) = £7,647,575 – 8,217 pupils not including Looked After Children
