CCTV and Community Safety contacts

I am writing to find out who in your organisation is responsible for:

• Community safety, specifically the use of CCTV for the prevention of crime, drug use etc)

Devon County Council has a control room monitoring CCTV for the purpose of traffic management- specific footage may be shared with the Police to help with the detection of crime. Responsibility for compliance with disclosure legislation in these instances rests with the Information Governance Manager.

There are also CCTV cameras at council premises such as offices and country parks, to help with the prevention and detection of crime and to help ensure public safety, and at locations managed by our contractors, such as recycling centres. Overall responsibility for sharing camera footage lies with the relevant head of service/information asset owner, responsibility for providing advice on data protection and ensuring DDC complies with data protection laws is that of the data protection officer.

• CCTV installation and monitoring

The overall responsibility for the installation of CCTV are heads of service/information asset owners, but named contacts include Chris Cranston – Highway Operations and Communications Manager, Matthew Jones – – Strategic Business Services Manager, for council offices, Chris Chandler, Senior Waste Manager, Operations, for recycling centres

• Who your elected member for CCTV is

Devon County Council do not have a specific member for CCTV but this would be under the portfolio of Councillor Stuart Hughes Cabinet Member for Highway Management as public space CCTV is managed within the Highways Operations Control Centre.
