Dangerous Wild Animals

Freedom of Information Act 2000

Date of Request: 01/04/2016

Date of Disclosure: 18/04/2016

Please find Devon County Council’s response to the questions below;

Q) Please provide details of all current licenses issued under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 (or 2006 for Northern Ireland). – For each licence, a list of all species and the number of individual animals covered. In each case, as much information as possible would be ideal. – Please only include licensed private owners, rather than zoos or sanctuaries (which I do not believe are covered by the 1976 act). – Where relevant, please distinguish between the number of animals the licence allows for (i.e. 20 wild boars) and how many are currently being kept (i.e. four currently being kept, but the licence allows for 20 for breeding purposes, for example).

A) Please note that Devon County Council does not hold the information you are requesting.  This is because Devon County Council is not responsible for issuing licenses under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act.

I understand that responsibility for issuing licenses under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act rests with each of the District and Unitary Councils in Devon.  I therefore suggest that you contact each of these organisations directly to obtain the information you require.

In the interest of providing you advice and assistance, please find details for each of the district councils in Devon on our website at;
