Grass maintenance

I would like to ask a couple of questions regarding how Devon County Council manages its lawns. – How much money does Devon County Council spend on public grass maintenance each year? – Who is responsible for this spend? Please include their name, email address and telephone number.

We have interpreted this request to cover highway verge maintenance and maintenance of public grass on council premises.

The Devon County Council budget for highway verge maintenance for 2017 – 2018 is £939,797. The person responsible for this spend is Meg Booth, Acting Chief Officer for Highways, Infrastructure Development and Wastemailto:meg.booth@devon.gov.uk, telephone 01392 383000 -ask for Meg Booth.

In addition, Devon County Council has a corporate grounds maintenance contract for fifty seven (57) sites which covers regular grass cutting, edging and obstructions, and also rough cut and wild flower meadows, although the latter cannot be considered as lawns. The spend for this contract per year is £30,391.26. Rob Parkhouse, the Head of Digital Transformation and Business Support is responsible for this spend, email rob.parkhouse@devon.gov.uk, telephone 01392 383000 -ask for Rob Parkhouse.

Please note: the sites covered by this contract are “public” in that they are the responsibility of Devon County Council – some of them are not actually accessible by the public.
